A STUDY OF THE SYNCHRONIZATION OF TWO OSCILLATORS,

Abstract

Expressions for the lock-in response and beat frequency waveform for the case of two interacting oscillators were derived. Because beat waveforms are nonsinusoidal, a mean shift occurs outside lock-in that gives rise to a low frequency voltage at the detector. The frequency of this voltage is a function of the rate of change of the distance between the two oscillators. If the frequency falls in the signal band, undesired responses will be observed. Bounds were also determined for the magnitude of the voltage due to this interaction effect and have noted that oscillators can be designed to minimize this voltage by choosing the proper values of compliance coefficients.
