HIGH LEVEL PASSIVE RADIATION MONITOR: THE SOLID COMPTON RECOIL ELECTRON DETECTOR.

Abstract

Studies have been carried out on a high level passive radiation monitoring system based on charge generation from electron scattering in a dielectric-electrode matrix. The radiation detecting element is called the Solid Compton Recoil Electron Detector (SCRED). The physical principles of detector operation are defined, and the results of experimental studies on charge transport are described. A number of detectors of different materials, sizes, and shapes were assembled and evaluated during the course of the program. (Author)
