INVESTIGATION OF STREAMWISE VORTEX SYSTEMS GENERATED IN CERTAIN CLASSES OF CURVED FLOW, PART II.

Abstract

An attempt is made to use the von Karman's integrated momentum equation to study the flow field and the interaction between the wall and the fluid in the case where stream-wise directed vortices are present in the boundary layer. The von Karman idea is examined in view of the fact that the problem is three-dimensional. The main difficulty in applying this technique lays in the fact that good guesses for the velocity profiles are hard to find. An attempt is made to show what type of considerations may be advanced, and the mathematical method of solution is exhibited on a definite choice of velocity profiles which however are not the finally recommended ones.
