PRESSURE BROADENING AND SHIFT OF METHANE PERTURBED BY NOBLE GASES,

Abstract

High-resolution tuned-laser spectroscopy was used to measure pressure broadening and shift of the methane 2947.907 reciprocal cm line perturbed by noble gases. The Galatry line shape was found best suitable for determining the line width. It was found necessary to modify Foley's phase-shift theory by adding a 'hard-core' term to the collision cross sections in order to explain the experimental results. (Author)
