TAPERED BOLTS. THEIR INFLUENCE ON FATIGUE OF AIRPLANE STRUCTURES

Abstract

This report is a continuation of the work presented in Ref. 1 on Fatigue Resistant Structures. An attempt will be made to make use of the linear strain theory in combination with experimental effective spring constants for predicting effects of pressed fit bushings on lugs and interference fits on bolted joints. Fatigue data are presented showing the effects of interference fit bolts or bushings on the fatigue life of structures.
