OPTICAL STUDY OF A FLUIDIC TEMPERATURE SENSOR,

Abstract

The flow field in a fluidic temperature sensor that operates on a principle similar to edgetone was studied by schlieren and shadowgraph techniques. The sensor is a fluidic oscillator whose frequency depends upon the temperature of the gas flowing through it. The oscillations are generated by impinging a jet upon the tip of a sharp wedge. A triggering system whereby it was possible to control the instant during the cycle of oscillation at which schlieren and shadow pictures were taken is described. Sequences of photographs are included that clearly show vortex formation and jet behavior typical of edgetone. (Author)
