SHIPBOARD INFORMATION SYSTEM: VOL. 2 INSTRUCTIONS AND CODING MANUAL.

Abstract

The coding manual and its two associated forms are the basic instruments of a system that provides information on man-hours, wages and machinery maintenance. Data for the system is collected by designated officers aboard ship and coded with the use of this manual for entry on the data collection forms (Form I and Form II). Form I, the Shipboard Data Collection Form, provides for the entry of data on all work performed by the crew aboard ship. The first section of this manual (indexed under Form I) contains instructions for the use of Form I and provides the codes necessary to record the data in a format suitable for computer processing. Form II, the Crew Information Form, provides for the entry of specific data on each crewman's identity, sailing status and wage rates. The first five parts of Form II are completed by the individual crewman at sign-on. The last two parts of Form II are completed by the Purser, if carried, or other appropriate officer. Instructions and codes for Form II are given. (Author)
