PATHOGENESIS AND TREATMENT OF RESPIRATORY DISORDERS IN BOTULISM

Abstract

This report describes a severe form of botulism in a 25-year old patient. The course of the disease was manifested by respiratory disorders of the pharyngospinal type. For treatment an endotracheal artificial respiration was used under a positive pressure by means of Angstrem's respirator for a course of 27 days. Pulmonary complications were controlled by suction of the bronchial secreta with Timan's catheters in conjunction with pulmonary therapy. Recovery was complete with the exception of a mild accommodation paresis.
