A MULTIPROCESSOR COMPENDIUM.

Abstract

The research paper treats various aspects of multiprocessors and offers a detailed explanation to the special problem of real-time performance and interconnected logical structure. Several kinds of parallelism in computer architecture are noted, and multiprocessors in general are discussed with respect to characteristic capabilities and performances such as utilization and application; task segmentation; memory segmentation; allocation; scheduling; and reliability. The paper contends that, for a significant class of problems, the multiprocessor approach combines many advantages of the other multiple or parallel processor schemes. In addition, recognizing that many unsolved problems remain in the efficient use of these machines, recommendations are made for areas of research that would be beneficial to the continuing effort of improving multiprocessor efficiency.
