A DYNAMICAL THEORY OF SANDWICH PLATES WITH ANISOTROPIC FACINGS.

Abstract

This paper treats the small motion of a rectangular sandwich plate with anisotropic facings and an homogeneous orthotropic core. Equations of motion are derived using Hamilton's Principle in conjunction with the Reissner Variational Theorem under the assumption of anisotropic membrane facings of identical thickness but different elastic properties. The derived system of equations reflects the coupling between extensional, shearing, bending, and twisting motion typical of layered anisotropic structures and also includes the effect of transverse shear deformation of the core and rotatory and translatory inertia of the core and facings.
