THE HYPERSONIC ROLL DAMPING DERIVATIVE OF A BLUNT CONE.

Abstract

The roll damping derivative of spherically blunted cones in hypersonic flight is computed by means of boundary layer theory. Suitable transformations along with existing knowledge of the boundary layer outer edge conditions permit reducing the equations of motion to forms with known solutions. The results agree to within a few per cent of recently measured values of the roll damping derivative. (Author)
