NON EQUILIBRIUM FLOW FIELD EQUATIONS TO WITHIN FIRST ORDER TERMS IN THE AFFINITIES.

Abstract

The report presents the formulation of a general theory of non-equilibrium flows of gas mixtures, with an arbitrary number of rate processes, to within first order terms in the affinities. From this general formulation first and second order, linear and non-linear small perturbation theories for fields with small deviations from either uniform or non-uniform equilibrium flows can be obtained in a unitary manner. As an instance of application, a second order theory for subsonic and supersonic nonequilibrium steady flows is derived. (Author)
