A FUNDAMENTAL RESEARCH STUDY OF THE CONVERSION OF POLYMERS TO FIBERS.

Abstract

In order to achieve the main objective of the program, this being the development of the engineering principles which are involved in the conversion of bulk, linear, fiver-forming polymers into usable fibers, it has been first necessary to design, fabricate, assemble and carry out break-in operations on an appropriate dry-spinning machine. In the reporting period, assembly and construction were carried out, and the final research dry-spinning machine was put through break-in trials. Photographs and line drawings, as well as one detailed drawing, provide the essential descriptive information on the equipment. A comprehensive literature survey, in preliminary form, is provided.
