SATELLITE STUDIES IN LOW LATITUDES.

Abstract

Several years of measurements of ionospheric irregularities by using beacon satellites, allowed some conclusions on their occurrence and morphology in low latitudes. Diurnal and seasonal variations of the scintillation index and of index of large scale irregularities, shows the particular behavior of ionospheric irregularities in low latitude as compared with high and equatorial zone. Other forms of irregularities like Spread F and Sporadic E are correlated with above indices. Nighttime and daytime scintillation and large scale irregularities occurrence is discussed: Results presented in the paper complete information obtained by other tracking centers, belonging to the Joint Sattellite Studies Group.
