THE DISTRIBUTION OF ANGULAR CORRELATION IN TWO-ELECTRON ATOMS. I. THE 2(1)S STATE OF HELIUM.

Abstract

Calculations of the distribution of angular correlation in the 2(1)S state of helium were made for the case of t = 0. The nodal region in the wave function has a marked effect upon angular correlation in that it changes the angular interaction from repulsion to attraction, although the attractive region is relatively small. The effect of various spatial properties of the wave functions on angular correlation is noted. It is argued that improving the energy of wave functions produces a 'sharpening' of the distribution of angular correlation. (Author)
