NOISE COUNTERMEASURES IN CODE RECEPTION,

Abstract

Telegraphic receiving in the presence of natural or artificial interference or jamming is a difficult problem for the operator. This paper briefly introduces six rules which the operator should follow. (1) An operator must be thoroughly trained to have a correct concept of each incoming signal type. He must be familiar with high speed normal signal transmission and must be able to differentiate various types of incoming signals. (2) An operator must have the ability to retain one or possibly two signals in his memory so that sufficient time can be given for their evaluation. (3) An operator must have the ability to control the characteristic tune of the opposite station. (4) An operator must have the ability to control the operating manner, habits and techniques of the opposite operator. (5) An operator must be familiar with the different types of interference or jamming and with methods of coping with them. (6) Earphones must be correctly and properly used. The most important overall factor is the full and complete concentration of the operator himself.
