TRANSMISSION OF DIGITAL INFORMATION AT PHASE-DIFFERENTIAL MODULATION (FRM) OF ARBITRARY MULTIPLICITY (PEREDACHA TSIFROVOI INFORMATSII PRI FAZOVORAZNOSTNOI MODULYATSII (FRM) PROIZVOLNOI KRATNOSTI),

Abstract

A. A. Pistol'kors first pointed out the possible use of 180 deg. phase change modulation for binary information transmission. V. A. Kotel'nikov showed that such a modulation is the optimum one in presence of white Gaussian noise. The present paper describes a method for the establishment of correspondence between the values of the binary symbols in an arbitrary number of connected binary channels or the value of symbols of arbitrary base, and the changes in phase of the carrier frequency. This permits the unambiguous transmission of information by means of phase-difference modulation without the need to remember the phase of the preceding signal. The proposed method of transmission is illustrated by functional diagrams of the transmitter and receiver devices for the general case of phase-difference modulation of arbitrary multiplicity. The particular case under investigation transmits three binary channels on one carrier frequency.
