INVESTIGATION OF THE COMPRESSIBILITY OF LIF BY HIGH-PRESSURE HIGH-TEMPERATURE X-RAY DIFFRACTION METHODS.

Abstract

Measurements were made of the compressibility of LiF to 60 kilobars over the temperature range from 25 to 600C by high-pressure high-temperature X-ray powder diffraction methods. Pressures were determined by using NaCl as an internal calibrant. These results also provide data on the thermal expansion of LiF between 25 and 600C at pressures of 38 and 57 kilobars. The feasibility of determining the unit-cell volume of crystalline solids under extreme pressure and temperatures by in situ X-ray methods has been demonstrated. (Author)
