IMPROVEMENTS AND REFINEMENTS ON A PULSE TYPE SONIC ANEMOMETER.
Abstract
The report describes a series of improvements and refinements which have been applied to the pulse-type sonic anemometer. It is essential that the reader review the Final Report, Design Development and Testing of an Acoustic Anemometer, AFCRL Report No. 66-650, to this previous development activity as background for the material presented in this document. The refinements include the introduction of time series multiplexing techniques to permit 15,000 foot separation between the transducer array and the readout site, the introduction of integrated circuits, certain improvements in the array and transducer design, array de-icing techniques and a variety of other minor improvements. A complete discussion of the engineering criteria supporting the refinements, together with a description of the improved system is given. (Author)
