STRUCTURAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE EARTH'S CRUST IN THE SOUTHERN PART OF THE EUROPEAN USSR (OSOBENNOSTI STROENIYA ZEMNOI KORY YUGA EVROPEISKOI CHASTI SSSR),

Abstract

As a result of deep seismic sounding methods, the deep structure of the earth's crust of all the largest geological structures has been investigated in the southern part of the European USSR and in the black Sea. These structures together with the structures located in the territory of the adjacent foreign countries form a rare combination of geotectonics elements which form a consecutive evolutional series. This translation is a study of the DSS findings, which lead to the assumption that the orthogonal and diagonal systems of abyssal fractures in the southern part of the European USSR, including the regions of the Paleozoic and Alpine folding have an old pre-Cambrian establishment. However, the abyssal fractures manifested actively during the Paleozoic or Meso-Cenozoic periods are probably regenerated old fractures. Crustal thicknesses are compared and basic geological structures and abyssal fractures are studied. (Author)
