This report is one of a regular series on the status and progress of studies on the nature of speech, instrumentation for its investigation and practical applications. Extended reports and manuscripts cover the following topics: Motor control of coarticulation in monosyllables; Non-speech voluntary palate movements; Speech synthesis by rule; Synthesizing British English; Rules for word stress analysis for conversion of print to speech; Discrimination of three-formant nasal-vowel syllables; and Research on human communication, marine ecology, and the biochemistry of protozoa.
