BASIC RESEARCH ON SYNTHESIS OF NEW PHOSPHORUS-NITROGEN REAGENTS.

Abstract

Judiciously selected derivatives and metal chelates of two classes of phosphorus-nitrogen reagents were prepared and characterized by their physical properties. The compounds are as follows: (I) (RO)2PNHP(OR)2; (Ia) R = CH3-; (Ib) R = C2H5-; (Ic) R = CF3CH3-; (C2H5)2PNHP(C2H5)2. The zinc salt of Ib and the zinc, copper, and possibly the iron salts of II have been synthesized. Attempts to synthesize Ia were unsuccessful; the only products isolated were the trialkyl and dialkyl derivatives. Compound Ic was isolated in low yield; the intermediate, (RO)2PN = P(OR)3, was unusually stable. The metal chelates of Ia and Ib were readily hydrolyzed to lower alkyl derivatives by atmospheric moisture. Compound II was extremely hygroscopic and formed a mono- or sesquihydrate depending upon the environmental humidity. The acidity of compound II is notably lower than that of Ib. (Author)
