THE RAMAN SPECTRUM OF CRYSTALLINE LITHIUM NITRATE

Abstract

In order to determine the external lattice vibration frequencies of LiNO3 and to unambiguously establish the internal nitrate ion frequencies, as well as to study the effect of the alkali cation on these vibrations, the Raman spectrum of a large, anhydrous single crystal of lithium nitrate has been obtained. Using modern Raman instrumentation a complete polarization study was made, and the available spectra region extended to within 10/cm of the exciting radiation.
