ANALYSIS OF DATA FROM OV3-2, GEMINI 10, GEMINI 12 AND SNAPSHOT SATELLITES.

Abstract

Plots and listings generated by computer programs are made use of to determine the aspect of the Gemini 10 and 12 manned satellites. The aspect analysis which makes use of telemetered data from an onboard ion-sensing system as input to the computer programs was furnished by the AFCRL. The computer program output for Gemini 10 and 12 is exhibited in plots given in the appendix (Figures 1-15). SECTION 2 Sun sensor and earth's magnetic field telemetered data together with the general analysis and the accompanying computer program are made use of to determine the aspect of the satellite OV3-2 for revolution 1125. The aspect is exhibited by plots of the angle between the axis of the spacecraft and the equatorial plane, the angle between the projection of the axis in the equatorial plane and the vernal equinox line, the angle of attack of the axis with the velocity vector (from both the raw data and from the smoothed aspect data), and the angle of attack of the axis of the spacecraft with the earth's magnetic field vector. SECTION 3 Plots and listings generated from the Standing Wave Impedance Probe and the Retarding Potential Analyzer data of the OV3-2 satellite are used to determine the electron current, electron density, and electron temperature of the atmosphere. SECTION 4 Plots and listings generated from the various experiments of the Snapshot satellite were used to determine the following: the electron density from the Standing Wave Impedance Probe; the vehicle potential, the ion and electron currents, fluxes, and densities from the Plasma Probe; and the currents, pressures, and number densities from the Ion Density Gauge.
