RADIATION-HARDENED VOLTAGE-CONTROLLED OSCILLATORS AND TAPE HEAD DRIVERS,

Abstract

A radiation-hardened magnetic tape recorder system was developed and designed into a package suitable for field use to record data in the presence of high intensity nuclear radiation. Performance of the system was evaluated in representative environments produced by a Triga Mark F pulse generator and by Flash X-rays. At gamma dose rates of 5 x 10 to the 8th power R/sec, a change in bandwidth of less than 10 percent occurred for about 1 microsec. A permanent change of approximately 1 percent in the resting frequency of the VCO2 was incurred from exposure to a neutron fluence of 5 x 10 to the 13th power N/sq cm (Pu). (Author)
