APPROXIMATE METHOD FOR COMPUTING THE PROPAGATION CHARACTERISTICS OF A PLASMA TEST SECTION,

Abstract

An approximate computation method is described by which the characteristics of a plasma test section can be computed. By this method, the openings in the side walls of the main waveguide caused by the flow channel can be taken into account. The channel, intersecting the main guide at a right angle, is replaced hypothetically by a section of waveguide with slightly increased width, which causes corresponding reflections. Relationships for the equivalent width, for the corrected values of the propagation constant, reflection coefficient, and transmission coefficient are derived. Procedures for the application of the derived equations for the determination of the plasma data from measured values of the reflection and transmission coefficients are outlined. (Author)
