DESHOCKING ERROR IN THE ANALYSIS OF INTERFEROGRAMS.

Abstract

The zone method of analysis of an axisymmetric interferogram of supersonic flow usually requires the introduction of a deshocking constant B sub o to reduce the undesirable mathematical effects of the density jump at the shock. This report derives an expression for the error associated with the use of an incorrect deshocking constant, C sub o. It is shown that for a given trace, (1) the error at the first zone point inside the shock depends only on B sub o and C sub o and (2) the error at any other point depends only on B sub o, C sub o and the manner in which the trace is divided into zones. A proof is given that the error dies out away from the shock, regardless of the estimate C sub o or of the manner of zone division. (Author)
