MUON POLARIZATION IN NEUTRAL-KAON(3) DECAY.

Abstract

An experiment to measure the polarization of muons from neutral-K(mu3) decay was carried out at the Bevatron with counter techniques. All three components of the polarization were measured. The time-reversal violating component transverse to the decay plane was found to be = - .005 plus or minus .019, which is consistent with T-invariance. The result for the form factor ratio zeta = f-/f+ was Re zeta = - 1.81 +0.50 or -0.26, Im zeta = - 0.02 plus or minus .08, Arg (zeta)-pi = 0.6 plus or minus 2.6 deg., if zeta is assumed to be independent of q sq. If zeta is not too strongly dependent on q sq., this result still holds true for zeta at q sq approx. = 2.65 (m sub pi) sq, the average q sq selected by our apparatus. (Author)
