LOW TEMPERATURE PROPERTIES OF PERMANENT MOLD CAST A356-T6 ALUMINUM ALLOY,

Abstract

The object was to determine the mechanical properties of standard 1/2 inch round A356-T6 aluminum cast test bars in the notched and unnotched conditions at ambient, -320F, and -423F temperatures; to photograph several fractured A356-T6 cast test bars showing the fracture site and relative amounts of shear and cleavage failure; and to determine the mechanical properties of R-5 tensile specimens machined from an A356-T6 sand casting (57-23215) at ambient and -423F temperatures.
