MARKING OF GEODETIC POINTS IN OPEN MOUNTAIN REGIONS (MARKIROVKA GEODEZICHESKIKH TOCHEK V OTKRYTYKH GORNYKH RAYONAKH),

Abstract

The mountain-plateau 'desert' begins at an elevation of from 1100-1500 meters in the mountain regions of Yakutia. It is almost completely barren of overgrowth. Artificial materials must be used for marking reference points in plateau regions in order to have reliable identification. In the particular operation discussed, gauze and white calico were used. The calico was more expensive and heavier than the gauze. The practice of marking reference points with foil glued to thick paper was tested. The shiny surface as a signal has much merit, but because of weather conditions, great care must be taken to properly prepare the foil markers. (Author)
