A LOGICAL ANALYSIS OF GUESSING

Abstract

In a logical analysis of guessing, appropriate test-taking strategies are derived for six major test-scoring procedures. Three commonly used definitions of guessing are interpreted as corresponding degree-of-confidence distributions. The ability of the testing procedures to separate these distributions from those representing higher degrees of knowledge is considered with the major result that only admissible probability measurement performs satisfactorily.
