CONTEMPORARY TECHNOLOGICAL LUBRICATING OILS,

Abstract

This booklet provides basic information on the composition and properties of present-day petroleum-base and synthetic lubricants, mostly oils, and on their applications. Polyphenyl oils are discussed. Synthesis, chemical and physicochemical properties, thermal and thermal-oxidative stability, and lubricity are touched on. It is stated that: 'Polyphenyl oils have not yet found wide application, because polyphenyl ethers have not been studied thoroughly. Polyphenyl oils are considered as promising lubricants for service at high temperature, e.g., in high-performance supersonic jet engines. Polyphenyl oils are beginning to find application as heat- and radiation-resistant hydraulic fluids.' (Author)
