ON SEVERAL REMOTE SEQUALAE OF TULAREMIA (CHRONIC TULAREMIA),

Abstract

The chronic forms of tularemia can be divided into two groups-firstly--chronic or chronic relapsing. In patients of the first group there are active clinical appearances of infection (fever, bubos, etc.) for some time after the acute period of infection (which lasts 3 months). These forms are encountered, according to our data, in 1.6% of all tularemia cases. Patients have been observed in whom the fever lasted 180 to 202 days, and in others there was the development of neck and shoulder bubos which did not recede for 15-24 months. To the second group belong those forms which seem to recede after the acute period of infection, but in the long run (as a result of a lenghty retainment of the infection in the organism on the verge of its specific sensibilization) there is a relapse, sometimes after a long period of time.
