DESIGN OF A COMPUTER-ASSISTED COASTAL INFORMATION SYSTEM.

Abstract

Requirements for operationally-oriented information based on geographical data are found throughout the Navy. An output structure for a Coastal Information System is developed based on types of high-priority operational questions. The flow of geographical data is traced schematically and three information interfaces are developed; one supports the output structure at the priority level; one integrates information flows at the level of the research, weapon system development, strategic planning, and operations; the third relates the Navy information needs to the scientific community and other sources of geographical data.
