PERFORMANCE AND COST ANALYSIS OF ALTERNATIVE ADP CONCEPTS FOR COMBAT SERVICE SUPPORT,

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate cost and performance characteristics of two alternative concepts for automatic data processing systems in support of combat service support organizations and operations for the Army in the field. The Combat Service Support System on-line concept currently under development and designed for third-generation digital computers was compared to an alternative concept that projects types of electrical accounting machines and computers currently being employed. Each ADP system was structured with personnel and equipment resources as required to attain equivalent performance. Total system costs were then derived and the results evaluated. The preferred ADP system was selected on the basis of least cost in relation to accomplishment of the TASTA-generated data processing workloads that provided the ADP performance specifications for this study.
