EVALUATION OF UTILITY OF ANNOTATED WEATHER OUTLINES.

Abstract

Simulations were carried out using two methods of presenting radar weather contours on air traffic controllers' displays. The first was the televising of a series of manually prepared displays consisting of annotated dot (outer) and X (inner) contours. The annotations consisted of simulated reports of storm heights, turbulence and hail. The second was through digital recordings of the digital radar channel method of presenting contours wherein three radar antenna sweeps build up the dotted outline, three the X outline and so on cyclically.
