OPERATIONAL RELIABILITY OF REMOTE CONTROL SYSTEMS,

Abstract

The operational reliability of remote control systems, operating almost continuously, seems to be a basic operational index which determines their possible application for long distance guidance and control. As a rule service men are not in continuous attendance at the telemechanized power installations (line substations, small hydroelectrical stations). Under these circumstances when the remote control system is put out of action the power installations are completely robbed of their guidance and control over the condition and operating performance of their equipment. Even if service men are present at the installations functional troubles in the remote control systems cause considerable difficulties in the centralized control of power systems. A continuous operation and accurate performance of the remote control system are of singular importance in securing effective centralizing control for the entire power system. The number of persons necessary for servicing and the amount of operational cost are also depending on the operational reliability of remote control systems. (Author)
