LASER CAVITIES. PART I. RESEARCH ON OPEN RESONATORS.

Abstract

The present report is concerned with both theoretical and experimental research performed in the last three years on open resonators. In the first part two different theoretical approaches are extensively reported on the problem of modes and loss of a new type of open resonator terminated by flat roof mirrors. The experimental investigation described in the second part consisted in studying the performance and characteristics of open resonators by means of microwave models. Experimental tests have been performed on X-band models of planar F.P. resonators, of resonators terminated by roof mirrors (flat-roof, 90 deg. roof) and of rimmed mirror resonators. (Author)
