THERMODYNAMICS OF LIQUID SURFACES.

Abstract

A method for measuring interfacial tension was developed, employing a novel modification of the drop weight method. Key innovations include (1) detection of passage of drops by a high frequency coil; (2) measurement of the 'delivered' volume by continuous weighing on an automatic balance; (3) flow control by a long thin capillary (e.g. less than 0.5 mm OD, and less than 0.1 mm ID) which did not interfere with the weighing.
