ON DETERMINATION OF DISTANCES TO ORIENTATION POINTS (OB OPREDELENII rasstoyanii do orientirnykh punktov0,

Abstract

Direct measurement of distances to the orientation points at the points of triangulation is connected with great difficulties not only during the survey in the mountainous taiga regions. Even in a steppe area such measurements over cultivated fields are a laborious process. Therefore, in practice a method is utilized for determining distances from auxiliary constructions. However, not enough attention is always paid to the problems of the accuracy secured by these methods. In many establishments of the Chief Administration of Geodesy and Cartography determination of distances to the orientation points is done from a parallactic link with a constant base in the form of a wooden rod about 1.5-20m long. To facilitate transportation the rod may be prepared for sliding Duralumin pipes. Although this method is simple and convenient, it may be used only for distances up to 300m, for orientation points in a continuously forested area. (Author)
