RADIATION CONSIDERATIONS FOR A MANNED LUNAR MISSION,

Abstract

As a support to various predesign studies some of the aspects of the space radiation shielding problems have been reviewed in order to present an order of magnitude weight penalty to the mechanical designer. The initial results indicate that transversal through the belts can be accomplished with a tolerable dose provided modest shielding can be provided. The concept of the emergency inflatable suit is discussed and the weight penalty is estimated. (Author)
