MULTIPURPOSE RUBBER DIE (TRAPPED RUBBER BLANKING AND PIERCING).

Abstract

The rubber blanking method is adaptable to production blanking tasks and, if utilized within its limitations, will provide savings in lead, tool build, and manufacturing run time. The process can be used with conventional crank, hydraulic or drop hammer presses which are capable of generating approximately 2,500 psi in the trapped rubber head. Blanking of Electronic parts was introduced into production. The feasibility of blanking selected structural aircraft parts was demonstrated. Further work is in progress to integrate the process into general production usage. (Author)
