ATOMIC AND MOLECULAR SCATTERING FROM SOLIDS: I-PLANAR SCATTERING FROM ONE-DIMENSIONAL SURFACE ARRAYS (AN EXTENDED DATA SET),

Abstract

Results of a comprehensive study of a 2D scattering system are presented. In its most general form, the model corresponds to a uniform stream of atoms which approaches the surface with prescribed velocity distribution and angle of incidence and interacts with elements representing the surface of an elastic, finite temperature solid. The 2D surface field is constructed from superposed Lennard-Jones 6-12 pairwise potentials. The study represents the first adequate statistical treatment of gas-surface scattering on the basis of multi-dimensional, finite range interaction (FRI). (Author)
