EVALUATION OF DENSE ALUMINA BODIES AS CUTTING TOOLS.

Abstract

The evaluation of dense alumina bodies as cutting tools was performed as follows: two commercially available ceramic insert groups were used as turning tools. Their tool life in minutes and their metal removal rate were used as the bases for comparison. Two groups of dense alumina inserts and one group of single crystal aluminum oxides (sapphires) were tested under identical conditions. (Author)
