EXPERIMENTAL EVALUATION OF COOPERATIVE COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM.

Abstract

The introductory portion of the report discusses the revised issue of the project planning chart and summarizes progress at the end of the period. A resume is given of miscellaneous contract developments and meetings with FAA personnel. A considerable portion of the report is devoted to a description of the flight tests performed at 1630 MC and a discussion of the direct and ground reflected signal characteristics for various altitudes, ranges, and types of terrain. The initial flight tests at 440 MC with the S-measuring unit and range tracking system installed are described. In addition, an account is given of the difficulties which prevented successful overall operation by the end of the report period. Logic design and circuit development work on the computer are described in considerable detail. (Author)
