TAXI SPEED AND DISTANCE INDICATOR.

Abstract

The report contains the description of a system to measure distance and speed for the FAA all-weather landing test bed airplane, the N-112 (CV-880). The system's function is to provide a speed indication to within two knots or plus/minus eight percent of the speed, whichever is greater; and to provide a storable distance travelled indication accurate to within nine feet plus/minus six and one-half percent of the distance travelled. The system to accomplish the above requirements consists of three sections: A SENSOR AND EXCITER RING ASSEMBLY( CONVERSION circuitry and displays. An AC signal that indicates wheel revolutions occurring in time is generated by the sensor. This signal, by means of analog and digital circuit techniques, is converted to indicator drive information for visual display at the cockpit panel indicators. (Author)
