DEFORMATION MECHANISM IN ALPHA-TITANIUM AT LOW TEMPERATURES,

Abstract

The deformation mechanism of alpha-titanium in the temperature range -196-400C has been investigated by differential tensile tests. The activation energies, activation volumes and frequency factor are thus obtained. After comparing with various dislocation mechanisms, it is shown that the deformation-controlling process is probably the overcoming of the Peierls-Nabarro force.
