RADIO PULSES FROM COSMIC RAY SHOWERS.

Abstract

Exploratory observations of radio pulses generated by cosmic ray showers were made at the Chacaltaya Laboratory of the Laboratorio de Fisica Cosmica of the Universidad Mayor de San Andres, near La Paz, Bolivia. The experiments during the grant period were designed primarily to investigate mechanisms of production of the radio pulses, (a) because of interest in the mechanism as such, and (b) because the results would lead to ideas for use of the radio-pulse method alone for detection of large air showers. The results are given in the appended copy of a manuscript submitted for publication in Physical Review Letters. (Author)
