LIQUID EGG YOLK CULTURE MEDIUM FOR BACTERIUM TULARENSE (ZHIDKAYA ZHELTOCHNAYA SREDA DLYA VYRASHCHIVANIYA B. TULARENSE)

Abstract

A liquid egg yolk culture medium was investigated as a potential culture medium for Bact. tularense. It was found that it is excellent for isolating this bacterium from animal sources. The optimum egg yolk concentration of the physiological solution is 10%. Bact. tularense survives in the liquid egg yolk medium for up to 5 months, even under unfavorable storage conditions. The only drawback of the liquid egg yolk medium is that it is opaque so that bacterial growth cannot be macroscopically observed in it.
