TRANSVERSE PLASMA WAVE ECHOS,

Abstract

Transverse plasma echos can arise from two spatially separated, steady-state excitations, a transverse one at frequency omega 1 and a longitudinal one at frequency omega 2. Our theoretical results for the location, polarization, and other characteristics of these echos, which have frequency omega 1 plus or minus omega 2, take into account collective effects, as found from the Vlasov equation. The variety of phenomena involved is much greater than in the case of two longitudinal excitations. (Author)
